Inuit feast in Montreal

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Each last Saturday of the month since the past six years we've had inuit feast in Lachine and Dorval depending if it's winter or summer. The majority of the people that go to the feast are inuit living in Montreal and it's sourroundings. Alot of them are there too for hospital reasons. This monthly gathering is an acitivity that we inuit living in south appreciate very much since we get to eat traditional food and the most important aspect is; we get to see and be part of inuit in Montreal; that is the case for me anyway.

This next feast is the most popular one of them all since it's a Christmas feast. There is a draw for Air Inuit and First Air tickets for two. Bring your friendly smile; to an environment without alcohol and drugs. Come enjoy the company of Inuit for the evening while remembering the spirit of Christmas. I will see you there with my ever contageous smile :)

The feast is at St-Stephen Anglican church on 44th Avenue in Lachine at 6:00pm

13th Aboriginal Festival

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

P1020545.jpg The "13th Aboriginal Festival" was on Friday November 24th to Sunday November 26th 2006, at the Toronto Skydome. I saw a pow wow that I wanted to see since three years. There were many booths with things to buy, booth for information on how to enter the Canadian Forces, how to become a Fireman or enter the RCMP. There was an inuk guy in one of the booth carving with soap stone.

We missed Susan Aglukark singing performance by one hour. There was dance competition of boys, girls, junior boys, junior girls, men and women. The dances they did were all different. One dance was "Fancy shawl" it was nice to see the girls dancing the fancy shawl moving in perfect harmony with the drum. Every dancer had beautiful regalia with all different colours. There were aboriginal people from Canada and the United states. I recommend to everyone to go see the "14th Aboriginal Festival" next year. Looking at the dances, sometimes I had tears, it was a very moving experience. Click to continue »
